The Restless Heart
I recently read an interview with actor and musician Kiefer Sutherland. One statement caught my attention. He described himself as a “completely unsatisfied human being.” He wasn’t speaking of bitterness or failure. Rather, he was describing a constant longing that keeps him striving, creating, and moving forward. In many ways, that statement describes the human condition. Deep inside every person is a longing that nothing in this world can fully satisfy.
King Solomon understood this truth. He possessed wealth, wisdom, pleasure, power, and achievement beyond what most people could imagine. Yet after pursuing everything the world had to offer, he repeatedly concluded that it was all “vanity.” The reason is simple: we were created for something greater than this world. God has placed eternity in our hearts. No career, possession, accomplishment, or earthly relationship can fully satisfy the deepest longings of the soul.
I have found that some of the most restless seasons of life are often the seasons when God is teaching us to look upward. We think we need a change of circumstances, a new opportunity, or the answer to a particular prayer. Sometimes what we really need is a closer walk with Christ. The emptiness we feel is not always a problem to be solved; sometimes it is a reminder that our hearts were made for Him. Augustine famously wrote, “Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in Thee.” How true that is.
As believers, our satisfaction is not found in achieving every goal but in knowing the Lord. The psalmist compared his longing for God to a thirsty deer searching for water. Just as the body cannot survive without water, the soul cannot thrive apart from fellowship with God. Many people spend their lives trying to quench that thirst with success, entertainment, possessions, or relationships, only to discover they are still thirsty. True satisfaction is found only in Christ.
Take a moment today to examine what you are looking to for satisfaction. Is there something you believe will finally make you happy if only you can obtain it? Bring that desire before the Lord and ask Him to remind you that your deepest needs are met in Him. The soul that thirsts after God will find in Him a satisfaction the world can never provide.
"The fear of man bringeth a snare: But whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe." — Proverbs 29:25

Trusting God With Tomorrow (Pt. 3)
In this final part of the message, “Trusting God with Tomorrow,” we are brought face to face with a powerful truth from Scripture—while we often plan our days and assume the future, the Bible teaches us that life is fragile, uncertain, and completely in God’s hands. As James reminds us, our life is “even a vapour” that appears for a little time and then vanishes away . The issue is not planning, but planning without God—living as though we are in control of what only God knows.
This message walks through the heart of biblical trust: having a proper perspective of tomorrow, a humble posture before God today, and a surrendered plan that says, “If the Lord will.” Whether facing uncertainty, fear, or the illusion of control, we are called to draw near to God, rest in His care, and trust that His will is good, even when tomorrow is unknown. Because Christ has risen, our future is secure—not in our plans, but in His perfect hands.
