Kitchener Baptist ChurchPastor Burns has served as the Senior Pastor of Kitchener Baptist Church since assuming that role after several years of faithful ministry. He graduated from Bible College in 2005 and joined the staff at Kitchener Baptist Church in 2006. Prior to becoming Senior Pastor, he served in both Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastor roles. Pastor Burns holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Ministry with a concentration in Biblical Counseling.

“These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks, standing before the God of the earth.” Revelation 11:4
Revelation 11:4 introduces us to two remarkable witnesses who will stand for God during one of the darkest periods of human history. They are described as “the two olive trees” and “the two candlesticks.” Their purpose is clear—they are standing before God and representing Him in a world that has rejected Him.
What strikes me about this verse is where these witnesses are standing. They are “standing before the God of the earth.” Before they ever stood before men, they stood before God. Their authority did not come from themselves. Their strength did not come from their personality, popularity, or position. They were God’s witnesses because they belonged to God.
That is an important reminder for us today. We live in a world that desperately needs the truth, but standing for truth is not always easy. There will be times when people misunderstand us, reject us, or even oppose us. But our responsibility is not to please everyone. Our responsibility is to faithfully represent the One before whom we stand.
A candlestick gives light. It does not create the light; it simply holds it up so that others can see. That is what God desires from His people. We are not the Light—we point people to the Light. Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). Our lives should make it easier for people to see Christ.
