Looking unto Jesus

Scripture

In this sermon, the message begins by defining faith according to Hebrews 11:1-3, portraying it as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. It delves into the lives of numerous Old Testament figures, often referred to as the ‘hall of faith’ in Hebrews chapter 11, highlighting their unwavering belief in God’s spoken word and His promises. This message explores how these individuals, including Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and Rahab, lived lives of faith, often through significant trials and even death, without fully receiving the promises of God in their lifetime. Their faith was rooted in the invisible, yet powerful, word of God, which ultimately pointed to the coming of a Messiah, a Savior, prophetically revealed through various types and pictures throughout the Old Testament, from Genesis 3:15 onward. The sermon culminates by drawing a parallel between the faith of these Old Testament saints and believers today, urging them to run their race with endurance, ‘looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith’ (Hebrews 12:2). It emphasizes that God’s plan includes both past and present believers, ultimately leading to a future where all will gather around His throne, declaring, ‘Worthy is the Lamb that was slain’.
