Genesis 3:2 | Pastor Jerry A. Burns

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: — Genesis 3:2

Eve responds to the serpent. Instead of fleeing from the temptation, she enters into dialogue with it.

This seems to show that Eve did not realize she was dealing with the enemy. She answers the serpent and begins to explain what God had said.

She does begin with the truth: “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden.” God had been generous. He had given them freedom to enjoy the garden.

But there is a danger when we begin reasoning with temptation. Eve did not need to debate the serpent. She needed to rest in what God had said.

Temptation often becomes more dangerous the longer we entertain it.
