The Bible speaks of a remarkable book called the Book of Life. It is mentioned throughout Scripture, and its significance becomes especially clear when we come to the final judgment. Revelation 20:12 tells us that the dead will stand before God, and the books will be opened. Then the Book of Life will be opened. The issue will not be how good a person was, how religious they were, or how many good things they accomplished. The question will be whether their name is written in the Book of Life.

That thought ought to cause every one of us to stop and consider where we stand with God. Heaven is not earned by good works, baptism, church membership, giving, or trying to be a better person. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ. Revelation 21:27 reminds us that only those “which are written in the Lamb’s book of life” enter the holy city. The Book of Life belongs to the Lamb, and the only hope of heaven is found in Him.

Jesus told His disciples, “Rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20) What a wonderful reason to rejoice! There is something far greater than earthly success, recognition, possessions, or accomplishments. To know that your name is written in heaven means that your eternal destiny is settled in Jesus Christ.

One day every earthly record will fade. Our names may be forgotten by people, our accomplishments may be left behind, and everything we possess will eventually pass away. But there is one record that matters for eternity. Is your name written in the Book of Life? If you have trusted Jesus Christ alone as your Saviour, you can rejoice in the assurance of what He has done for you. If you have never trusted Him, don’t wait until the books are opened. Come to Christ today.
