Remembered No More
Pastor Jerry A. BurnsFor I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Hebrews 8:12Hebrews 8 quotes a promise God made through Jeremiah about a new covenant. Most of it is about what God will do inside His people. “I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.”
But the last line is the one that stops me. “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”
God knows everything. He cannot forget the way I forget, by accident. So this is not forgetfulness. It is a promise. He has chosen that our sins will never again be brought up, never held against us, never counted.
Many believers live as though God keeps a file on them. They confessed the sin years ago, but they still carry it, and they are sure God is still looking at it. He is not. I have sat with people who were still carrying something they confessed long ago, and I have been that person myself. He said He would remember it no more, and God does not say things He does not mean.
I am thankful that the only One who has the right to remember my sins has chosen not to.
If the Lord has put your sin behind Him, why are you still carrying it in front of you? Believe what He said.
