Stay on the Wheel
Pastor Jerry A. BurnsThen I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
Jeremiah 18:3God sent Jeremiah to a potter’s house to hear a sermon. It was not preached in words. It was preached in clay.
Jeremiah found the potter at work “on the wheels.” When the vessel was marred in his hand, the potter did not throw the clay away. He “made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it” (Jeremiah 18:4).
Notice who does the work. The clay never shapes itself. Its part is to stay on the wheel and yield to the potter’s hands.
That is how God works with us. Paul says, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). He is shaping both what you want and what you do. Even if you have been marred, He is not finished with you.
But hard clay fights the potter’s hands. Maybe you have been resisting Him. A conviction from the preaching. A habit He keeps pressing on. A step of obedience you keep putting off.
Where is God’s hand pressing on your life right now?
