A New Song After Waiting
Some of the sweetest praise I’ve ever heard didn’t come from a stage—it came from a hospital room. I had the opportunity to visit Bro. Doug on Thursday, and Bro. Porlier and Mahar were there as he continually gave praise to the Lord for all the things God had done in his life. That’s a wonderful song. It reminded me that waiting doesn’t only test us—it can also transform us.
Psalm 40 tells us what happens when a man waits patiently for the Lord: God inclines, God hears, God brings him up, God sets his feet upon a rock, and God establishes his goings. That’s not self-improvement. That’s God’s intervention. God does for us what we could never do for ourselves.
And then comes the part that touches my heart: “He hath put a new song in my mouth.” Waiting changes what we sing about. Before, the song can be about what I can do—my ambitions, my plans, my strength. But after waiting, the song becomes praise to God. When I waited on God, God gets the praise. When I wait upon the Lord, there is a testimony of praise. There is a revelation of God in my life.
That’s why waiting time is never wasted time. God is not only sustaining you—He is shaping your voice. He is forming a song that many shall see, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
Think of one area where you’ve been waiting. Begin thanking God now for what He will produce through it—a “new song.” Speak praise before the answer arrives, and let your waiting become worship.
