Psalms 61:7 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. — Psalms 61:7

David understood that what preserves a person is not their own strength, but God’s mercy and truth.

I need both. I need mercy because I fail, grow weary, and struggle emotionally at times. I need truth because feelings alone cannot guide me safely.

God’s truth steadies us when emotions shake us. His mercy carries us when we feel too weak to keep walking.

There are times where the only reason we are still standing is because mercy held us together one more day (Lamentations 3:22-23, John 17:17, Psalm 40:11).
