Psalms 61:4 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. — Psalms 61:4

David’s heart longs for closeness with God. When life becomes painful, the child of God does not ultimately need a place-they need His presence.

The tabernacle represented fellowship with God. David is saying, “Lord, I just want to stay near You.” I understand that feeling deeply. There are seasons where answers seem unclear, emotions run deep, and the future feels uncertain, but there is still peace in simply being near the Lord.

Then David uses the picture of being under God’s wings. What a tender image that is. Like a bird protecting its young, God watches over His children with compassion and care.

There is something comforting about knowing that even when life feels fragile, God’s care is not (Psalm 91:1-4, Ruth 2:12, Matthew 23:37).
