Philippians 1:7 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. — Philippians 1:7

Paul explains why he felt such confidence in these believers. They had a deep place in his heart, and he knew they shared in the same grace that sustained him.

Even while Paul was imprisoned, the Philippians continued to stand with him. They supported him, prayed for him, and identified themselves with his ministry.

Their lives also served as evidence of the Gospel’s truth. Through their faithfulness, they were defending and confirming the message Paul preached.

They were partakers of his grace. In other words, they shared in the same calling to suffer, sacrifice, and serve for the sake of the Gospel. Whether preaching, giving, or enduring hardship, they were partners in God’s work.
