Jesus is standing right beside her, but Mary does not recognize Him.
Grief has clouded her vision.
Sometimes sorrow can do that to us. We become so overwhelmed by pain, disappointment, confusion, or fear that we fail to recognize that the Lord is nearer than we realize.
Jesus had not abandoned Mary. He was standing right there.

Mary thought the story was over. But resurrection had already happened (Isaiah 41:10, Hebrews 13:5, Psalm 34:18).
