John 14:4 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. — John 14:4

Jesus tells the disciples that they know where He is going and that they know the way. This seems confusing at first because the disciples still do not understand all that is about to happen.

But they know more than they realize because they know Him.

Jesus is going to the Father by way of the cross, the grave, the resurrection, and the ascension. The disciples may not yet understand the full path, but the Way is standing right in front of them.

This verse teaches us that Christianity is not first about knowing a system. It is about knowing a Saviour. The disciples were confused about the details, but Jesus was patiently leading them to Himself.

Sometimes believers are like that. We do not understand every turn in the road. We do not know how God will work everything out. We may not understand the timing, the suffering, or the path ahead. But we know Christ, and knowing Christ is enough.
