Genesis 3:8 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. — Genesis 3:8

Now we see the aftermath.

God comes to Adam and Eve, but the relationship has changed. The intimate fellowship they enjoyed with God has been broken. Instead of running to God, they hide from God.

Adam and Eve do not seek God to confess their sin. God comes looking for them.

Psalm 10:4 says, “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.”

God knew they had sinned. That is why He came.

Billy Sunday once said that sinners cannot find God for the same reason criminals cannot find policemen: they are not looking.

But in Genesis 3, we see the heart of God. This points us forward to Christ. Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
