Genesis 3:7 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. — Genesis 3:7

Here we see the immediate effects of sin.

Satan had promised that their eyes would be opened, and in one sense, that was true. But it was a terrible kind of knowledge. They now knew good and evil by experience. They had moved from innocence to guilt.

They became aware of their nakedness and tried to cover themselves. Shame entered. Guilt entered. Fear entered.

In Genesis 2:25, they were naked and not ashamed. In Genesis 3:7, they are naked and trying to hide.

They sewed fig leaves together and made aprons. This is man’s first attempt to cover sin by his own effort. But man-made coverings are never enough. Only God can provide the covering sinners need.
