Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. — Genesis 3:21
This is one of the most beautiful verses in the chapter.
Adam and Eve had tried to cover themselves with fig leaves, but their covering was not enough. God made coats of skins and clothed them.
That means innocent blood was shed. An animal died so Adam and Eve could be covered.
Hebrews 9:22 says, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”
This points forward to the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, who would shed His blood to wash our sins away.
Man’s covering is never enough. Religion is not enough. Good works are not enough. Self-improvement is not enough. Only the covering God provides can deal with sin.
