Genesis 3:18 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; — Genesis 3:18

The ground would now bring forth thorns and thistles.

Thorns and thistles were not part of the original perfection of creation. They are part of the reality of a cursed world.

You can grab a beautiful flower and be pricked by a thorn. A rose can show both the beauty of God’s creation and the consequences of Adam’s sin. There is beauty, but there is also pain. There is fragrance, but there are also thorns.

That is the world we live in now - a world that still shows the glory of God, but also groans under the curse of sin.
