Adam’s answer is revealing: “I was afraid.”
Sin brought fear. Before sin, Adam had fellowship with God. After sin, Adam hid from God.
People still try to hide from God. They hide behind excuses, religion, good works, busyness, blame, and denial. But no one can hide from God.
Adam was concerned about the consequences of sin, and rightfully so. Hebrews 10:31 says, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Sin always brings consequences.
One man brought fiery hot wings to a potluck and convinced someone to try them. After that man suffered through the heat, he went looking for someone else to try them. Others saw what happened and still tried the wings for themselves. They thought they could handle it.
That is how sin works. People see the damage sin does, but still think, “I will be the exception. I can beat it. I can nibble around the edges and not get burned.”
But sin always burns. We always reap what we sow.
The devil, the father of lies, spreads his misery to others. Sin spreads like that.
