And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. — Genesis 2:19
God brought the animals to Adam, and Adam named them.
This was a task given to Adam. It shows Adam’s intelligence and authority under God. Adam was not primitive or undeveloped. He was created with the ability to think, reason, speak, observe, and name.
But this process also showed Adam something important. As the animals passed before him, each had its kind, its mate, and its companion. Yet Adam had no one like himself.
This prepares us for the creation of woman.
The Bible never teaches that woman is a lesser creation than man. Both man and woman were created in the image of God. Eve was not created as an afterthought or as something inferior. She was created by God for Adam, corresponding to him.
