Again, the magicians imitate the miracle. But what stands out to me is this-they could only make things worse.
Most of the water was already blood. So they take what little water they can find and turn it into blood as well. Whether this is a real wonder or a lying wonder, the result is the same-it does not help.
If they truly had power, why not reverse the plague?
This reminds me of a powerful truth. The blood of Jesus cleanses sin (1 John 1:7), but Satan can only imitate-he cannot redeem.
Religion is the same way. It cannot fix the problem of sin-it only makes things worse. Paul said in Philippians 3:8 that all his religious efforts were loss compared to knowing Christ.
They could not do what God had done.
