But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. — Galatians 5:18
To be “led of the Spirit” means that God is not merely giving us a rulebook externally; He is working in us internally. The law could reveal sin, but it could not give power over sin. The Spirit of God gives the believer power to walk in obedience from the heart.
This does not mean the Christian lives without boundaries. It means he lives under a better principle than mere outward regulation. The Spirit leads him through the Word, convicts him of sin, strengthens him in temptation, and points him to Christ. The Spirit will never lead a person contrary to Scripture. He leads us into truth, not confusion; holiness, not compromise; obedience, not rebellion.
