This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. — Galatians 5:16
Paul begins with a very practical command: “Walk in the Spirit.” This is not a one-time emotional experience, but a daily manner of life. To walk in the Spirit means that the believer allows the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, to direct his steps, shape his desires, and govern his responses.
The promise is very important: “ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Paul does not say the flesh will disappear. He says the believer does not have to obey it. The Christian life is not lived by simply trying harder in the flesh, but by yielding more fully to the Spirit. Victory comes as we are guided, corrected, strengthened, and guarded by God.
