By the River, In the Street, At Midnight

Acts 16 gives us one of the most beautiful pictures of how God works in the lives of people. Lydia sat quietly by the river, listening to the Word of God. She was religious, respectful, and sincere—but still needed salvation. The Bible tells us that “the Lord opened” her heart. In that moment, what she had heard before became real. Truth moved from her ears into her soul. She didn’t just hear the message—she received it. What a reminder that salvation is not merely information, but transformation brought about by the work of God in the heart.
Yet Lydia is only one part of the story. In that same chapter, a demon-possessed girl is delivered in the street, and a hardened jailer is shaken awake in the middle of the night. Three different people. Three different situations. Three different methods. But the same God working in each heart. One was refined, one was ruined, and one was rough—but all were reached by the same Gospel. This reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God, and no one is so “good” that they do not need Him.
As you think about the people in your life, it can be easy to feel discouraged. Some seem uninterested, others seem too far gone, and still others seem hardened and closed off. But Acts 16 teaches us to trust God with every heart. You cannot open a heart—but God can. Your responsibility is to share the truth faithfully and to pray earnestly. God’s responsibility is to do the work within. Just as He opened Lydia’s heart, He is still working today in ways you may not yet see.
Trust God to work in the hearts of those around you. Be faithful to speak, to pray, and to live the Gospel—but leave the results in His hands.

In this final part of the message, “Trusting God with Tomorrow,” we are brought face to face with a powerful truth from Scripture—while we often plan our days and assume the future, the Bible teaches us that life is fragile, uncertain, and completely in God’s hands. As James reminds us, our life is “even a vapour” that appears for a little time and then vanishes away . The issue is not planning, but planning without God—living as though we are in control of what only God knows.
This message walks through the heart of biblical trust: having a proper perspective of tomorrow, a humble posture before God today, and a surrendered plan that says, “If the Lord will.” Whether facing uncertainty, fear, or the illusion of control, we are called to draw near to God, rest in His care, and trust that His will is good, even when tomorrow is unknown. Because Christ has risen, our future is secure—not in our plans, but in His perfect hands.
