Proverbs 10:22 | Pastor Jerry A. Burns

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. — Proverbs 10:22

This proverb reminds us that when God blesses a life, He does not attach sorrow to it. The prosperity the Lord gives is not limited to money or possessions - it is the rich fullness that flows from His favor: provision, peace, wisdom, relationships, and spiritual health (Proverbs 8:18-21; Ecclesiastes 5:19). So much of what the world calls success carries hidden weight - anxiety, guilt, strain, or emptiness (1 Timothy 6:9-10). But what God gives is clean, settled, and life-giving. “He addeth no sorrow with it” means His blessings do not come through compromise, pride, or restless striving. They come through grace and righteousness (James 1:17). Simply put, real and lasting prosperity comes from the Lord, and what He provides enriches life without the painful consequences that often follow self-made gain.

That wealth which is truly desirable, has no vexation of spirit in the enjoyment; no grief for the loss; no guilt by the abuse of it. What comes from the love of God, has the grace of God for its companion.
