Edwin Cooper was known to millions as Bozo the Clown. Week after week, he urged his viewers to get checked for cancer. He warned them of the danger. He told them not to ignore the signs. Yet while he was busy telling others, he neglected his own advice. By the time his cancer was discovered, it was too late. He died at just forty-one years of age from the very disease he had warned others about.
That story is sobering. But there is something far more deadly than cancer—sin. Cancer destroys the body; sin destroys the soul. From the Garden of Eden until today, sin has left a trail of devastation. Broken homes. Hardened hearts. Ruined testimonies. Eternal separation from God. Jesus described Satan clearly: he comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. That is his agenda. He never plays fair. He never stops short. He never shows mercy.
Yet sin is often treated lightly. The world laughs at it. Entertainment glamorizes it. Conversation trivializes it. We sometimes get comfortable near it, stepping closer to the line to see how much we can handle. But when we truly see sin as God sees it, there is nothing amusing about it. The cross proves that. If sin were harmless, Jesus would not have needed to suffer. If sin were small, Calvary would not have been necessary.
When we feel ourselves becoming casual about sin, we must look again at the cross. There we see the cost. There we see the wrath of God poured out. There we see the love of Christ displayed. The nails, the crown of thorns, the cry of abandonment—these remind us that sin is no laughing matter. It is deadly. But praise God, Christ came to give life. Where sin destroys, Jesus restores. Where Satan steals, Christ redeems.
The question is not whether sin is dangerous—it is. The question is whether we are taking it seriously in our own lives.

Application
Is there an area where you have grown casual about sin? Something you excuse, laugh at, or tolerate? Ask the Lord to give you His perspective. Confess it honestly. Turn from it completely. Spend time meditating on the cross this week, remembering what your sin cost the Savior. Let gratitude for His sacrifice fuel a deeper hatred for sin and a greater love for righteousness.

3 Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
4 Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
5 And Moses brought their cause before the Lord.

7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
8 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
9 And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
10 And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren.
11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the Lord commanded Moses.
12 And the Lord said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.
13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.
14 For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.
15 And Moses spake unto the Lord, saying,
16 Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.
18 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:

1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

Trust in Him
Trusting God in the Storms (Pt. 3)

Storms don’t schedule appointments. One moment the sun is shining, the next the wind is howling and everything feels out of control. In this message from Mark 6, we walk with the disciples into a very real storm on the Sea of Galilee — tired, rowing hard, and making little progress. The wind was contrary. The night was long. And Jesus was not in the boat… at least not yet.
But what they did not realize was that while they were fighting the storm, Jesus was watching from the mountain. He saw them toiling. And in the fourth watch of the night — when strength was gone and hope was thin — He came walking on the water. When they acknowledged Him, everything changed. The storm ceased. The fear faded. The destination was reached.
Most of us know what it feels like to row against contrary winds — burdens, opposition, uncertainty, exhaustion. Proverbs 3 reminds us that storms reveal what we’re leaning on. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” The question is not if storms will come — Isaiah 43 says when. The question is: Who are you trusting when they do?
In this message, we explore three powerful truths: a reliance upon God, a recognition of His presence, and a rebuke against trusting our own wisdom. Calm does not come from better rowing — it comes from Christ in the boat. Join us as we learn how to put all our weight down and trust Him fully, even when the winds are strong.
