Low Enough to Be Lifted

Isaiah 57:15

"For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones."

Andrew Murray wrote that in trial and weakness and trouble, the Lord seeks to bring us low until we learn that His grace is all. That truth is woven through Scripture. The God who inhabits eternity—the high and lofty One—chooses to dwell with the humble. Not the self-sufficient. Not the proud. Not the strong in their own eyes. He revives the contrite. He fills the empty.

We often resist being brought low. We fight against weakness. We pray for strength, relief, and recognition. Yet the Lord sees further than we do. He knows that pride suffocates fellowship, while humility invites His presence. When He allows trials to strip away our confidence in self, He is not punishing us—He is positioning us. He is creating space for Himself.

Murray also said the humble man has learned the secret of abiding gladness. That gladness is not rooted in comfort but in communion. The weaker he feels, the more clearly he senses Christ’s nearness. The lower he sinks, the more fully he experiences the sustaining presence of God. Weakness becomes a meeting place. Emptiness becomes an altar where grace is poured out.

Isaiah reminds us that God does not merely observe the humble—He dwells with them. He revives them. He strengthens them. That means your lowest season may become your deepest revival. When self decreases, Christ increases. When pride falls, peace rises. When we accept the humbling hand of God, we discover that His grace truly is enough.

Humility is beautiful because it attracts the presence of God. And where He dwells, there is life, joy, and quiet strength.

Application

Is there an area where God is allowing you to feel weak or humbled? Instead of rushing to escape it, ask the Lord what He is shaping in you. Confess pride where it exists. Invite Him to revive your heart. Spend time daily in quiet surrender, acknowledging your dependence on Him. The place where you feel lowest may become the place where His presence is richest.

17 And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.

18 In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:

19 But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the Lord; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish:

20 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;

21 A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs:

22 And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.

23 Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.

24 After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

25 And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work.

26 Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the Lord, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:

27 But ye shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the Lord; two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year;

28 And their meat offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto one bullock, two tenth deals unto one ram,

Trusting God With Tomorrow (Pt. 3)

In this final part of the message, “Trusting God with Tomorrow,” we are brought face to face with a powerful truth from Scripture—while we often plan our days and assume the future, the Bible teaches us that life is fragile, uncertain, and completely in God’s hands. As James reminds us, our life is “even a vapour” that appears for a little time and then vanishes away . The issue is not planning, but planning without God—living as though we are in control of what only God knows.

This message walks through the heart of biblical trust: having a proper perspective of tomorrow, a humble posture before God today, and a surrendered plan that says, “If the Lord will.” Whether facing uncertainty, fear, or the illusion of control, we are called to draw near to God, rest in His care, and trust that His will is good, even when tomorrow is unknown. Because Christ has risen, our future is secure—not in our plans, but in His perfect hands.
