When the Gospel Is Hidden

One of the most difficult things for a Christian to understand is why some people hear the Gospel and still reject it. The message of salvation is clear and wonderful. Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose again, and offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who will believe. Yet many people hear that message and simply turn away from it.
The apostle Paul explains that there is more happening than what we can see on the surface. He tells us that “the god of this world,” referring to Satan, works to blind the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the beauty and truth of the Gospel. Satan’s desire is to keep people in darkness and away from the saving light of Christ.
This reminds us that evangelism is not just a conversation—it is a spiritual battle. When the Gospel is shared, truth is confronting deception and light is shining into darkness. That is why Satan works so hard to distract people, fill their minds with doubt, or convince them that they do not need Christ.
But the good news is that the Gospel still has power. In the verses that follow, Paul reminds us that God is able to shine the light of truth into human hearts. John also tells us, “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:5). Every time the Gospel is preached, shared with someone, or read from the Scriptures, that light is shining once again. That is why we must never grow weary in proclaiming it. The message of Christ is still the power of God unto salvation.
Write down the names of people you know who need Christ and begin praying regularly that the light of the Gospel would shine clearly into their lives.
Do not become discouraged if someone does not immediately respond to the Gospel. Remember that there is a spiritual battle taking place. Continue to pray for them, live faithfully before them, and share the truth whenever you have opportunity. The light of the Gospel is powerful, and God can use it to open hearts.
