The Music in the Storm

Out at sea, a bell buoy sits quietly for days at a time. In calm weather, it makes no sound. The surface is smooth. The skies are clear. It simply floats. But when the storm comes—when wind howls and waves crash—that buoy begins to ring. The violent beating of the water pulls the music out of it. Without the storm, there would be no song.
So it is with the believer. Trials do not create what is inside us; they reveal it. Anyone can speak confidently when life is easy. Anyone can smile when prayers are answered quickly. But when the wind picks up—when finances tighten, when health declines, when relationships strain—that is when the true condition of the heart is heard. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh (Luke 6:45). Storms become amplifiers.
Job declared, “When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10). Gold is not produced by fire; it is purified by it. Likewise, faith is not produced in crisis; it is proven in crisis. A storm will either pull bitterness out of us or worship out of us. It will either produce panic or prayer. What rings out of your life when the waves hit?
God does not waste storms. Sometimes He allows the wind to rise because He wants the music of trust, patience, and praise to be heard—not just by others, but by us. We often do not know what is truly inside until the waves begin to strike.
Prepare in the calm. Fill your heart daily with God’s Word so that when the storm comes, faith—not fear—rings out. Strengthen your prayer life before the crisis. Cultivate gratitude before the hardship. And when trials arrive, listen carefully to what your life is sounding like. If the music isn’t what it should be, ask God to refine your heart. Let every storm draw out worship instead of worry.

In this final part of the message, “Trusting God with Tomorrow,” we are brought face to face with a powerful truth from Scripture—while we often plan our days and assume the future, the Bible teaches us that life is fragile, uncertain, and completely in God’s hands. As James reminds us, our life is “even a vapour” that appears for a little time and then vanishes away . The issue is not planning, but planning without God—living as though we are in control of what only God knows.
This message walks through the heart of biblical trust: having a proper perspective of tomorrow, a humble posture before God today, and a surrendered plan that says, “If the Lord will.” Whether facing uncertainty, fear, or the illusion of control, we are called to draw near to God, rest in His care, and trust that His will is good, even when tomorrow is unknown. Because Christ has risen, our future is secure—not in our plans, but in His perfect hands.
