Don’t Forget Where You’re Going

Dr. Harold C. Urey, a Nobel Prize–winning chemist, once bumped into a fellow professor while walking down the sidewalk. After a brief conversation, as they prepared to part ways, Urey asked, “John, which way was I going when I met you?” His colleague pointed down the street. “Oh, good,” Urey replied, “that means I’ve already had my lunch,” and he walked off.
It’s humorous—but it’s also revealing. Here was a brilliant man who could split atoms and unlock scientific mysteries, yet he momentarily forgot where he was headed. Intelligence does not guarantee direction. Success does not ensure focus. And spiritually speaking, many believers know doctrine, attend church, and serve faithfully—yet can drift without realizing it.
Proverbs urges us to “ponder the path” of our feet. In other words, think about where you’re going. The Christian life is not lived on autopilot. It requires intentional trust. Not just knowing truth—but walking in it. Not just believing in God—but following Him deliberately.
It’s possible to be busy and yet spiritually distracted. We can move quickly while losing clarity. The world pulls at our attention. Responsibilities crowd our schedule. Before long, we may need to ask ourselves, “Which way was I going?” Am I pursuing Christ? Am I growing? Or have I simply been moving?
Trusting God means fixing our eyes forward. Hebrews 12 tells us to look unto Jesus. When our focus is right, our direction follows. When our trust is steady, our path is established.
Take a few quiet moments today and evaluate your direction. Are you moving toward Christ—or merely moving? Ask the Lord to refocus your heart and steady your steps. Trust Him intentionally, not casually. Set your eyes forward, fix your heart on His Word, and walk deliberately in the path He has set before you.

In this final part of the message, “Trusting God with Tomorrow,” we are brought face to face with a powerful truth from Scripture—while we often plan our days and assume the future, the Bible teaches us that life is fragile, uncertain, and completely in God’s hands. As James reminds us, our life is “even a vapour” that appears for a little time and then vanishes away . The issue is not planning, but planning without God—living as though we are in control of what only God knows.
This message walks through the heart of biblical trust: having a proper perspective of tomorrow, a humble posture before God today, and a surrendered plan that says, “If the Lord will.” Whether facing uncertainty, fear, or the illusion of control, we are called to draw near to God, rest in His care, and trust that His will is good, even when tomorrow is unknown. Because Christ has risen, our future is secure—not in our plans, but in His perfect hands.
