Stay on the Wheel

October 15, 2026 ●
By Pastor Jerry A. Burns
Jeremiah 18:3
"Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels."

God sent Jeremiah to a potter’s house to hear a sermon. It was not preached in words. It was preached in clay.

Jeremiah found the potter at work “on the wheels.” When the vessel was marred in his hand, the potter did not throw the clay away. He “made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it” (Jeremiah 18:4).

Notice who does the work. The clay never shapes itself. Its part is to stay on the wheel and yield to the potter’s hands.

That is how God works with us. Paul says, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). He is shaping both what you want and what you do. Even if you have been marred, He is not finished with you.

But hard clay fights the potter’s hands. Maybe you have been resisting Him. A conviction from the preaching. A habit He keeps pressing on. A step of obedience you keep putting off.

Where is God’s hand pressing on your life right now?

Application

Before you go to bed tonight, name that one area to the Lord. Pray, "Lord, I will not fight Your hands here," and take the first step He has already shown you.

Victory Verse

"I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving." — Psalm 69:30

Additional Verses
"But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand."
"Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?"
"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us."

In this week’s message titled "What are you Seeking?" from Kitchener Baptist Church, Pastor Jerry A. Burns explores John 20 to show how the world searches for meaning in the wrong places. Listeners will hear how Solomon looked for purpose in worldly success and pleasures only to find vanity, and how Mary Magdalene sought her Savior at the tomb, weeping for the dead before discovering He had risen.

Pastor Burns reminds us that true life is found only in Jesus Christ. The reality of Christ gives us life, and His resurrection is the key to our salvation and eternal life. We must choose life, for Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Join us on "Timeless Truths" as we turn to God's Word for these vital answers.
