Kitchener Baptist Church runs this website and the KBC Connect app for iPhone and Apple Watch. This page explains what they collect, why, and what we do not do. It is written plainly on purpose. If anything here is unclear, please ask us — our details are at the bottom.
The short version
We collect as little as we can. There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking of any kind, and nothing is ever sold or shared for marketing. We never see your card details. You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app, at any time.
What we collect, and why
If you make an account
Your name, your email address, and a password. The password is stored scrambled (hashed) and nobody at the church can read it. An account is optional: sermons, the Bible, the calendar and giving all work without one.
If you stay signed in
A sign-in token is kept so you are not asked for your password every time. Signing out removes it.
If you use the daily reading
Which readings you have marked as done, so the app can show your streak.
If you turn notifications on
A device token from Apple, the date it was last seen, and — only if you are signed in — which account it belongs to, so a notice can be sent to one person rather than everybody. Turning notifications off in your phone’s settings stops it being used.
If you tap “I prayed for them”
We count it. We do not record who tapped. The number beside a prayer request is a total, and it cannot be traced back to you.
If you give
Giving is handled by Stripe, a payment company. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach the church’s website or the app. We receive the amount, what it was for, and the email address you gave, so the offering can be recorded and receipted.
If you sign up for an event, or send a connection card
Your name, email address and phone number, so the church can be in touch about that event or that request.
The church directory
If you are a member of the congregation, the church office already keeps a record of you — the same record it has always kept. The app shows the directory only to members the office has approved, and only after you sign in. Making an app account does not put you in the directory, and deleting your app account does not remove you from it.
What stays on your phone and is never sent to us
Your life verse, the icon you chose for it, where you had reached in the Bible, your text size, and which notifications you switched on. These live on your device. We cannot see them, and they are gone if you delete the app.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or usage tracking. The app contains no tracking software of any kind.
- No selling, renting or sharing your information for marketing, by anyone, ever.
- No location tracking. The app can open your maps app for directions, which happens on your phone; we are not told where you are.
Who else can see it
Only the people who need to. Church staff and volunteers who run the office see what they need for their work. Beyond that, we use a small number of services to make the app work: Stripe for giving, Apple for sending notifications, and Brevo for email. Each receives only what that job requires. We do not share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Account details for as long as you have an account. Reading progress alongside it. Device tokens until the device stops appearing, or until the list is trimmed. Giving records are kept as long as Canadian charity and tax rules require, which is longer than the rest and is not ours to shorten.
Deleting your account
In the app: More → the account button → Delete account. You will be asked for your password to confirm. Your sign-in, your reading progress and your app data are removed immediately and cannot be recovered.
Two things this does not do, on purpose. It does not remove the church’s own record of you as a member — ask the office if that is what you want. And it does not erase giving records, which we are required to keep.
If you cannot get into your account, email office@kitchenerbaptist.org and we will do it for you.
Children
The app is meant for a general congregation and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If a child has made an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law you may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Email office@kitchenerbaptist.org and we will answer.
Changes
If this changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything significant will be said in the app as well.
