Lord, Increase Our Faith
Faith is something every Christian desires, yet many of us feel the same burden the disciples felt when they cried, “Lord, increase our faith.” Life has a way of exposing how small our faith can be. When trials come, bills pile up, prayers seem unanswered, or the future feels uncertain, we quickly realize how much we need to trust God more. The disciples had walked with Jesus, seen miracles, and heard His teaching, yet they still felt their need for stronger faith. That should encourage us—growing in faith is part of the Christian journey.
Jesus answered them in a surprising way. He did not speak about having “more” faith as much as having genuine faith. Even faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish great things when it is placed in a great God. The power is not in the size of our faith, but in the object of our faith. A tiny seed of true trust in the Almighty can move mountains of fear, doubt, and discouragement. Sometimes we think we need extraordinary faith, when really we need simple obedience and steady trust in the Lord.
Faith grows when it is exercised. Just as muscles grow stronger through use, faith strengthens when we choose to trust God in daily life. We trust Him in prayer, in giving, in waiting, in suffering, and in obedience. Faith is not merely believing God can—it is resting in the confidence that He knows what is best. Abraham believed when he could not see. Peter stepped out of the boat before he understood how it would end. Faith is often walking forward while still holding unanswered questions.
If today you find yourself weak, uncertain, or struggling, do not be ashamed to pray the disciples’ prayer: “Lord, increase our faith.” God is not offended by honest dependence. In fact, He welcomes it. He delights in children who know they need their Father. Bring your fears to Him. Bring your doubts to Him. Ask Him for stronger faith, and then trust Him one step at a time.
