In John 4:34, Jesus sums up His entire earthly mission in one powerful statement: “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” In the context of His encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well, we see a Savior whose deepest satisfaction was not in physical food, but in obeying His Father and completing the work of redemption. That work would lead Him all the way to the cross, where He could finally say, “It is finished” (John 19:30). Jesus ran His race in perfect obedience so that sinners could be saved, forgiven, and brought into a right relationship with God.

In this message, we’re reminded that God also has a will and a race for each of His children. His will is first that we be saved — that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Then, His will is that we grow: to be sanctified, conformed to the image of Christ, thankful in all things, and filled with the Holy Spirit. We may not know every detail of tomorrow, but if we are walking with Jesus today — trusting Him for salvation, growing in holiness, giving thanks, and yielding to the Spirit’s control — we will be exactly where we’re supposed to be in the days ahead. The Christian life is not about finishing first, but about finishing faithful, able to say with Paul, “I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
