Proverbs 3:11–12 “My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”
No one likes correction in the moment—it stings our pride and challenges our comfort. But to reject correction is to reject the love behind it. The people of Judah refused to be corrected. God warned them. He sent prophets. He allowed hardship. But instead of repenting, they hardened their hearts. In doing so, they rejected not just discipline—but love.
God’s correction is not cruel; it’s a sign of sonship. A loving father doesn’t let his child run into traffic or touch a hot stove without intervention. In the same way, God lovingly places roadblocks in our paths to stop us from spiritual disaster. To ignore His correction is to choose pain over peace, distance over closeness, ruin over restoration.
Have you felt the gentle (or maybe not-so-gentle) nudge of God lately? A conviction? A closed door? A crisis meant to wake you up? Don’t despise it. Lean into it. Let it lead you back to His heart.
