The Miracle We Miss

Mark 6:51–52 “And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.”

The disciples had just witnessed one of the most incredible miracles—5,000 men fed with five loaves and two fishes. Not just fed, but filled. And yet, when Jesus calmed the storm, they were astonished. Not because of the power He showed on the water, but because they had already forgotten what He’d done on land. Their hearts, Scripture says, were hardened. They didn’t consider the miracle of the loaves.

How often are we the same? We beg God to show up in the storm, forgetting how He fed us yesterday. I remember a time I was praying desperately for God to provide a financial need—stressed, anxious, and discouraged. Then I opened my old prayer journal and saw pages filled with answered prayers. Why had I forgotten? The same God who fed the 5,000 is the same God who walks on water. Don’t let a hardened heart rob you of wonder. Consider the loaves. Remember His faithfulness.
