Living in a Temporal World

May 4, 2025

Every day, the world reminds us that life on earth is short. We see tragedy, sickness, violence, and heartache. But as believers, we’re called to lift our eyes from the temporary and focus on the eternal. Paul writes, “Behold, I show you a mystery…” reminding us that not all of us will face death; some will be changed instantly when Christ returns.

Paul teaches that whether by death or at the rapture, God has a plan for His people:

✅ Our mortal, corrupt bodies will be transformed—made immortal, free from sin and death.

✅ Death won’t have the last word. Jesus, by His resurrection, has removed death’s sting.

Imagine a child afraid of a bee, only to hear his father say, “Don’t worry, I took the sting.” That’s what Jesus did for us at the cross.

Life is Short — Live Ready

Paul reminds us that life is like a vapor, here for a moment, then gone.

  • Some will be called home through death — precious in God’s sight.
  • Others will be caught up at the rapture — transformed in the blink of an eye to meet Jesus.

Either way, our hope is certain because of Christ’s victory!

Victory is a Gift

Our victory over sin, death, and hell isn’t earned—it’s given to us through Jesus.

  • It’s a gift of grace: We didn’t earn it.
  • It’s a gift of hope: Because Jesus lives, so will we.
  • It’s a victory secured “through” Christ alone.

Our Response: Faithful Service

Because of this victory, Paul says:

➡ Be steadfast — firm in your faith.

➡ Be unmovable — not swayed by false teaching or hardship.

➡ Abound in the work of the Lord — go beyond what’s expected.

Why? Because nothing you do for the Lord is in vain. Our labor matters for eternity.
