Christian Maturity
Scripture: Ephesians 4:11–16
When Paul wrote to the believers at Ephesus, his desire was that they would grow up spiritually — moving beyond spiritual childhood and becoming mature, Christ-like Christians. God has given pastors, teachers, and spiritual leaders in the church not to do all the ministry themselves, but to equip the saints so that every believer can be involved in the work and help build up the body of Christ. As each member serves and contributes, the church becomes healthy, unified, and strong — “fitly joined together” and growing in love. The goal is not simply activity, but maturity: that God’s people would become more like Christ in character, sound in doctrine, sincere in spirit, and steady in their walk.
Spiritual growth is God’s will for every believer. We are not meant to remain spiritual children who are easily deceived and tossed about by every new idea, but to “grow up into Him in all things.” True maturity is measured — not by comparing ourselves with other Christians — but by our likeness to Christ and His pre-eminence in our lives. As we submit to biblical preaching, sharpen one another in loving relationships, and feed daily on the Word of God, our faith deepens and our behaviour changes. The result? A sincere, serving, stable believer whose life brings glory to Christ and helps edify His church. May we each press forward in our faith — growing, serving, and becoming more like Jesus day by day.
