The world encourages us to make resolutions, set goals, and try to improve ourselves—but experience shows that human effort alone often falls short. This message reminds us that a true fresh start does not come from a calendar turning, but from encountering the mercy of God. His mercies are new every morning, and His faithfulness never fails.
Drawing from the book of Lamentations, we look at a nation that had fallen into ruin because it slowly drifted away from God. Jerusalem was destroyed, the temple was burned, and the people were scattered—yet in the midst of that devastation, Jeremiah declared that God’s compassion had not ended. Even when everything else had collapsed, God’s mercy remained.
