Obeying God Today

2 Peter 1:12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

One of the greatest dangers in the Christian life is not ignorance—it is delay. Peter reminds believers that they already know the truth, yet he urges them to be established in it. Present truth is not about learning something new; it is about obeying what God has already made clear. Many of us are well-informed spiritually, but information without obedience produces stagnation.

I think about the emergency alerts we receive in Canada when wildfires spread, floods rise, or tornadoes approach. The alert doesn’t introduce a new concept—we already know storms are dangerous. The urgency is not in the knowledge but in the response. “Take shelter now.” “Evacuate immediately.” Delay can cost lives. In the same way, God’s Word often speaks clearly to our hearts, but we hesitate. We say, “Later,” or “I’ll deal with that when things settle down.” But obedience postponed is often obedience denied.

God may be calling you to something very specific right now—repentance, baptism, forgiveness, service, restoring a broken relationship, or returning to a neglected discipline. You may already know what He is asking. The question is not whether you understand—it’s whether you will obey. Mercy gives us the opportunity to respond today. Don’t miss the moment by waiting for a better one.
