Evidence of Life

Psalm 42:1–2  “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”

One of the clearest signs of spiritual life is spiritual hunger. Just as a sick person often loses their appetite, a believer in poor spiritual health may lose their hunger for God’s Word, prayer, or fellowship. The psalmist paints a vivid picture of desperation—the deer panting for water, driven by need. That same intensity ought to mark our longing for God.

If we find ourselves spiritually dull or indifferent, it may be time to examine our heart. The absence of hunger is not a small issue; it signals something deeper is wrong. Yet the good news is this: hunger can return when we seek Him afresh. Ask God today to stir within you a new thirst for His presence, because those who hunger after Him will always be filled.
