The Goal is Christlikeness

Philippians 3:13–14  “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Paul knew that true spiritual hunger leads us forward. He admitted he hadn’t “arrived” spiritually, but instead pressed on toward the goal. The goal wasn’t comfort, applause, or recognition—it was Christlikeness. To be conformed to the image of Jesus was worth forgetting the past and straining toward what lay ahead.

Every Christian must wrestle with this truth. Spiritual hunger is not satisfied with yesterday’s victories or discouraged by yesterday’s failures. It keeps reaching forward. Just as an athlete runs for the finish line, Paul pressed forward for the prize—the likeness of Christ. That’s what it means to hunger and thirst for righteousness: a continual pursuit of Jesus until we see Him face to face.
