The Hunger of the Heart

Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

Hunger is one of the surest signs of life. A newborn cries out for nourishment, and in the same way, the new believer longs for the things of God. Jesus tells us that true happiness—real blessing—is found not in worldly satisfaction, but in a deep longing for righteousness. This hunger is not casual; it is as desperate as a thirsty traveler in a desert, craving water for survival.

Have you ever noticed that when you are truly hungry, you can’t think about much else? Hunger drives every choice until it is met. Jesus says that kind of intensity belongs in our walk with Him. The Christian who hungers for righteousness won’t be content with shallow religion, temporary pleasures, or human approval. Instead, his soul cries out: “Lord, I want to be more like You.”
