Finishing Well
Finishing Well
Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:7-8
On Grandparents Day, we are reminded that life is not just about starting strong—it’s about finishing well. The Apostle Paul, near the end of his life, could boldly say: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). His words challenge us to look at the legacy we are leaving behind.
Paul’s life shows us that the Christian walk is a fight of faith—not a playground but a battleground. He endured trials, hardships, and even betrayals, yet he pressed on for the sake of the Gospel. He also reminds us that each believer has a course to finish, one designed by God Himself. We are not called to run someone else’s race but to stay faithful in our own, step by step, day by day.
Most importantly, Paul had kept the faith. He guarded the truth of the Gospel, lived it consistently, and left behind a testimony of trust. His example reminds us that even when our bodies grow older and weaker, our influence can remain strong—through prayer, godly counsel, and a life that points others to Christ.
And Paul looked forward to a crown of righteousness, promised not only to him but “unto all them also that love His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8). This crown isn’t for the famous or powerful—it is for the faithful. Grandparents, parents, and every believer can finish well by holding to truth, running with endurance, and keeping their eyes on Christ.
May it be said of us, as of Paul: they finished well.
