In today’s episode, we’re looking at one of the most powerful “I AM” declarations of Jesus Christ—“I am the light of the world.” The Gospel of John stands apart from the other Gospels. While Matthew highlights Jesus as King, Mark presents Him as the Son of God to the Romans, and Luke emphasizes His humanity, John writes to a Roman world with the focus on Jesus’ divine nature. Only seven miracles are recorded in John’s Gospel, each chosen carefully to show us that Jesus is God—and that by believing, we might have life in His name.

One of those miracles is found in John 9, where Jesus heals a man who had been blind from birth. To the disciples, the man’s blindness was a theological problem—“Who sinned, this man or his parents?” But Jesus saw differently. His answer was simple: this man’s blindness is an opportunity for God’s works to be revealed. That’s when He declared, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

This is a message of hope for a hopeless world. Just as that blind man lived in darkness, so every one of us is born in spiritual darkness—separated from God, without strength, without hope. But the good news is that Jesus came as the Light to bring sight, salvation, and life.

The miracle at the Pool of Siloam wasn’t just about physical healing. It was a sign pointing us to a greater truth: only Jesus can wash away sin and restore sight to the spiritually blind. Just as that man went, washed, and came back seeing, so every sinner who turns to Christ finds forgiveness, cleansing, and new life.

And the story doesn’t end with physical sight. Later in the chapter, Jesus reveals Himself to this man as the Son of God. The man responds simply, “Lord, I believe,” and he worships Him. That is the true light breaking through—faith leading to worship.

Jesus is the Light that reveals truth, shines in the darkness, and overcomes the blindness caused by sin and Satan. The question is the same one asked from the depths of a sunken submarine years ago: “Is there any hope?” And the answer is yes—there is great hope in Jesus Christ, the Light of the World.

The invitation is clear: don’t stay in the shadows. Come to the Light. Believe in Him. And find life in His name.
