In 2 Timothy 4:1–8, the Apostle Paul writes some of the most moving words in Scripture. Sitting in a Roman prison, awaiting his appearance before Nero, Paul reflects on his life, his ministry, and his faith. He knows the end of his earthly journey is near, yet his words ring with confidence and hope: “I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

This passage reminds us that true readiness for eternity begins with a personal salvation in Jesus Christ. Paul could face death with peace because his life was anchored in the Gospel. He had given his all to the Lord, serving faithfully despite hardships, disappointments, and trials. Like a soldier, he fought the good fight. Like a runner, he finished his course. Like a steward, he kept the faith. His confidence was not in his own merit, but in Christ, who promised a crown of righteousness to all who love His appearing.

The message also calls us to examine how we are living today. Are we building on the foundation of Christ with eternal works of gold, silver, and precious stones—or with the temporary and shallow pursuits of wood, hay, and stubble? Paul’s example challenges us to live with eternity in view: walking daily with God, serving with sincerity, and keeping our hearts humble before Him. Like Enoch, who walked with God until the Lord called him home, we too must stay close—abiding in Christ so that we will not be ashamed at His coming.

This sermon also reflects on the testimony of Katie Martin, a faithful Christian who lived more than 100 years with a heart full of prayer, witness, and a desire to see the Lord. Her life reminds us that readiness for heaven is not about age, accomplishments, or status—but about knowing Christ personally and living faithfully until the end.

Paul was ready to see the Lord. Katie was ready to see the Lord. The question this sermon presses on our hearts is: Are you ready? Ready through a biblical salvation in Christ, ready by serving Him with a sincere heart, and ready by walking daily in fellowship with Him.

As the old hymn says:

“It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,

Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ;

One glimpse of His dear face, all sorrow will erase,

So bravely run the race till we see Christ.”
