When You Don’t Know What to Do — Pray
Jeremiah 29:12 “Then shall ye call upon me… and I will hearken unto you.“
Prayer is not a last resort — it is God’s first and greatest invitation when the future feels unclear. You may not be sure what to do next, but prayer places your life in the hands of the One who does know. I think of my mother-in-law, who seemed to instinctively turn to the Lord about everything. She prayed for her children, for her church, for missionaries, for the smallest and biggest needs. Once, at a family picnic, the rain started to pour and plans were about to be ruined. She simply said, “Let’s pray.” They did — and sure enough, the rain stopped. That was just one of many quiet reminders that God really does hear.
She wasn’t just a “praying person” in name; she would often urge others, “Have you prayed about it?” She met with people at her church to pray, brought burdens to the Lord faithfully, and encouraged others to do the same. God didn’t answer every request exactly the way she wanted, but He answered so many in ways that strengthened the faith of everyone around her.
God hears every word, every whisper, every tear-soaked cry. And while prayer may not always change circumstances immediately, it always changes you — aligning your heart with His peace, His wisdom, and His timing. Like my mother-in-law’s example shows, a life of prayer is not about getting our will done in heaven, but God’s will done in us.
