Philippians 3:3 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. — Philippians 3:3

Paul now defines true salvation. He says, we are the circumcision. He is speaking of Christians, true believers in Christ. The circumcision that matters now is not outward and physical, but inward and spiritual, just as Colossians 2:11 teaches.

The mark of true Christianity is not found in outward ritual, but in the heart. A true believer worships God in the Spirit, rejoices in Christ Jesus, and has no confidence in the flesh. Christianity is not built on our works, our merit, or our religious effort. It is built on the work of Christ.

The flesh always wants something to boast in. Religion loves to brag about what it has done. But the sign of a true worshiper is not confidence in self, but confidence in Christ. It is not about our righteousness-it is about His finished work. We do not trust our own merit; we rest in Jesus.
