Everything changes when Jesus speaks her name.
One word: “Mary.”
Immediately she recognizes Him.
What a moment that must have been.
Moments earlier she was sorrowful, confused, brokenhearted, and searching among dead things. Now she stands face to face with the risen Christ.
Jesus is alive.
The sorrow of the tomb suddenly becomes the joy of resurrection.
Can you imagine the hope that flooded her soul in that moment?
Christian, one day we too will stand face to face with Jesus Christ.
One day we will see Him in all His glory, majesty, and splendour.
The hymn writer said: “By and by when I look on His face, I’ll wish I had given Him more.”
Mary discovered what every person must eventually discover: Life is only found in Him.
Not in religion.
Not in works.
Not in pleasure.
Not in success.
Not in identity.
Not in dead things.
Jesus alone gives life.
He is:
- the Resurrection
- the Truth
- the Way
- the Life
The empty tomb gives us hope because Jesus conquered death.
Because He lives, those who trust in Him shall live also (John 14:6, John 14:19, 1 Corinthians 15:20-22, John 3:16).
