“Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God…”
The magicians finally come to the end of their counterfeit power. They could imitate some things, but they could not create life. They could bring confusion, they could mimic signs, they could add to the problem, but they could not produce what only God can produce. Life belongs to God. Creation belongs to God. Only God can speak life into existence.
This is a powerful reminder that Satan can counterfeit many things, but he cannot create. He can deceive, distract, imitate, and corrupt, but he cannot give life. That belongs to God alone.
Even the magicians had to admit, “This is the finger of God.” They saw something they could not explain away. They knew this was beyond them. Yet Pharaoh still hardened his heart.
That teaches us something sobering: evidence alone does not always make people believe. A person can have the facts in front of them and still refuse the truth. The magicians admitted God’s hand was at work, but Pharaoh would not bow.
We see the same spirit today. There are claims and reports surrounding the Durupinar site in Turkey, often connected with Noah’s Ark. Recent reports have spoken of scans showing tunnel-like features, possible internal structures, and measurements that some say are close to the biblical description of the ark. At the same time, many scientists still argue that the formation is natural, and the matter is still debated.
But here is the point: even when evidence seems to support the Genesis account, there will still be scoffers. There will still be those who deny. There will still be those who explain it away. Why? Because evidence alone is not enough when the heart is hardened.
Faith is not blind, but faith is necessary. We believe the Genesis account because God said it. Discoveries may encourage us, archaeology may interest us, and evidence may support what we already believe, but our final confidence rests in the Word of God.
Pharaoh had evidence. He had miracles. He had warnings. He had even his own magicians saying, “This is the finger of God.” But he still refused.
That is the danger of a hardened heart (Hebrews 3:13, Hebrews 11:3, 2 Peter 3:3-6, Romans 1:20-21).
