Exodus 7:10 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. — Exodus 7:10

Moses and Aaron obey, and Aaron casts down the rod before Pharaoh and his servants, and it becomes a serpent.

Again the emphasis is on obedience. They do “as the Lord had commanded.” The miracle is not produced by technique but by God’s power operating through obedient servants.

This verse is the transition from divine instruction to public demonstration. It is the first open sign in the official plague confrontation, and it signals that the conflict between the Lord and Pharaoh has now moved into a visible, undeniable form.

The narrative pace here is notable. God speaks, gives instruction, and then the scene shifts immediately to Moses and Aaron carrying it out. The structure highlights the direct connection between God’s word and God’s act.
